The goal is to pursue the following three foci:
- Providing opportunities to add curriculum in sustainability to the many academic departments at SBCC creating value added skills to the basic requirements. This would include:
- Opportunities for students to delve more deeply into specialized topics through lecture series, workshops, and honors projects.
- Provide resources and curriculum to faculty looking for new opportunities to teach basic skills using sustainability as the content.
- With interested departments, develop modular or semester long courses in sustainable aspects of their particular discipline (i.e. Ecological Design in Architecture, or Permaculture in Horticulture).
- Enhance student life and strengthen community connections by:
- Holding public forums, lectures, workshops, and short courses that encourage an inter-generational conversation between community members and students.
- Establishing an internet resource for courses, information, local resources, and a calendar of events that includes SBCC and the many local organizations associated with sustainability.
- Collaborating with SBCC Continuing Education, local high schools, and 4-year institutions to improve the connections among academic levels. Examples include co-sponsored forums with leaders in the field and projects associated with sustainability with groups encompassing high school, SBCC, and university members.
- Provide real world experience through:
- Internships and work study with local experts.
- On campus opportunities working with college departments to improve campus sustainability
